A Closer Look: Life Development Classes
Last week we sat down with Element Church’s Life Development Pastor, Amy Nunn, to discuss Life Development Classes, what they are, and how you can get involved.
Classes are a great first step
Jumping into being involved at church can be intimidating. Oftentimes, it’s not so much the question of “Why should I be involved?”, but “Where do I start?”. Classes are a great first step to take on that journey. Pastor Amy describes them as being born out of the desire to help people feel comfortable connecting with the church when jumping into a small group can be too big of a leap.
“Some people struggled getting into a group because it’s in someone’s home. So, we do classes [which] are structured as instructional time and small group time. People will pair up at tables and have a discussion about the material that we just covered, so it gives them an opportunity to have a small group feel, without having to go to someone’s house, and in a safe place like the church building.”
Life Development Classes are all four weeks long, meeting for ninety minutes each week. All of these factors make classes an easy and convenient way to get involved with the church community.
Classes can equip you for a “Fresh Start”
Life Development Classes are also amazing opportunities for those wanting to make a “fresh start” in their lives with Christ. Fresh Start is one of our “Next Steps” for new believers at Element, happening every month at the Wentzville campus.
“Fresh Start would be [for] anybody who is new to their faith. Anybody that is new and doesn’t understand worship or salvation. Even someone that’s been in it a long time but needs a refresher. Pastor Erik explains it as ‘a solid foundation of who we are in Christ’.”
Classes can help you find answers
Beyond Fresh Start there are a few classes focused on helping you learn more about God and answering your questions about biblical topics. Pastor Amy suggests that anyone who has gone through Fresh Start take their next step by attending the Holy Spirit Class.
“Holy Spirit is taught by Pastors Kip and Sandy and it talks about the Holy Spirit, what is the Holy Spirit, what does the Holy Spirit do? If I was mapping it out, I would say after Fresh Start I would encourage [everyone] to take the Holy Spirit class, because that’s something they would need to know about as someone that’s just getting to know Christ.”
Another one of our popular classes is our Healing class.
“Healing [class] is for anyone that is looking for healing or doesn’t understand healing. It talks about healing: what does the Word of God say about healing? What does it look like? How do you walk that out?”
These classes are a great way to grow closer to God and get equipped with the tools to live life the way God intended.
Classes teach life skills
Another reason we do Life Development Classes is because God is practical. He taught us how to have a healthy marriage, how to conduct our finances, how to parent, and several other principles. That’s why life development covers topics such as finances, parenting, coaching, and more.
These skills that we learn in these classes can transcend our personal lives and have been used in the workplace and beyond.
“From the Developing Others Through Coaching class there [have been] multiple people who came forward and said they used it in their jobs. There was a lady in [the class] who is a manager at [a major corporation], and in one of their environments she has actually utilized this with her employees to help them grow in their personal life and in their work life leadership-wise.”
Life Development Classes are for developing lives. Taking one of these classes will build skills that are life-changing and career-altering, and all centered on biblical principles.
Classes are for everyone
Our vision as a church is to create experiences for life change, where people can find their place, fulfill their purpose, and grow in Christ. That’s why there are several opportunities to learn more in your walk with Christ with Life Development Classes, ranging from deep dives into biblical topics, to practical instruction on topics like Personal Finance.
Pastor Amy described Life Development Classes as “a great way to grow deeper in your relationship with Christ and also find community,” and you can take part in this vision today. To find out what classes are happening this month, and to register, click here:
